Construction terms
- Wear layer — the solid wood surface above the core on an engineered board; Sunca engineered products carry 3.5 mm
- Solid sawn — the wear layer is sliced from solid stock rather than rotary peeled, giving a more natural grain
- Core — the layers beneath the wear layer; eucalyptus on the exotic engineered program, poplar on the white oak program
- SPC / rigid core — stone plastic composite: limestone powder and stabilizers pressed into a waterproof, highly stable plank
Surface and finish terms
- Wire brushed — the soft grain is brushed out to expose texture and hide traffic wear
- Aluminum oxide — a hard particle suspended in the urethane finish that raises scratch resistance
- Sheen — the gloss level, measured as a percentage; Sunca wood products run 10% and rigid core runs 7%
- Unfinished — supplied raw for site sanding and finishing
Installation terms
- Acclimation — holding material in the installation space until its moisture content stabilizes
- Expansion gap — the clearance left at walls so the floor can move seasonally
- Racking — laying out boards from multiple boxes to distribute colour and figure
- Chevron — planks cut at an angle so they meet point to point in a continuous V
